Metro Soul December
A night with two of Birmingham's finest selectors playing with
no script. The usual Metrosoul manifesto of anything goes lead
to an incredible mix from disco to dub. Adam
Regan and DJ Dick left no stone unturned and their deep
knowledge left most wondering what was playing whilst still keeping
the crowd engaged and moving, they were due to play for two hours
but in three and a half later we prized them off. Fellow
Leftfoot cohort Smile and David James kicked things off with
the typical Metrosoul musica negra soundtrack.

The Jigsawmusic residents took on Notting Hill Carnival in 2004 for a Manchester/Birmingham/London soundclash at the Electric Souls party. The residents played for the first 5 hours and were followed by Yam Who,
Blackbeard, Chris Duckenfield and the Unabombers. The script: get one pub with lots of nooks and crannies on the Carnival route on a bank holiday, put a sounsystem in, fill it with ace people (plied with jerk chicken and Red Stripe), spin everything from rare groove to detroit house and back again = the best party in London.
Part 1: Rich & Dave having a soul, rare groove, afrobeat and jazz session in the middle of the day.

Yam Who & Landslide LIVE
@ Jigsawmusic First Birthday
May 2004
Jigsawmusic' first birthday was the party of the year! The music was awesome and the vibe was like a proper party should be! A huge thank you to both Yam Who? and Tim Landslide. Yam Who? played a wicked set and mixed a wide array of tunes that all had the soul. Tim then destroyed the place with an immense mix that defied genres - you'd be dancing the one of the best records that you'd heard in ages and thinking "I don't even know how to describe what I'm listening to but its blinding!". This boy is streets ahead! Enjoy the night for a second time.

Rob Luis (Tru Thoughts) Nick Matthews
(Best Kept Secret) LIVE @
Jigsawmusic 22.11.03
Nick Matthews came on at about 9.30pm
and built the place up with some heavy duty cuts from around the
world. The CDRs were flying into the CD deck and the vinyl was
fresh fresh fresh! Nick spun broken hip hop soul music.
When Tru-Thoughts head honcho Rob
Luis came on at 11pm, the vibe in the club was electric and you
could just tell that it was going to rock – by about 3 tunes
into Rob’s set, the floor was rammed and the craziness began…
Rob took the crowd up, down, left, right – all over the
place from Missy Elliot to the Specials, from 4 Hero to the Quantic
Soul Orchestra.
Rich G rounded the night off with
a set of some the latest dancefloor dynamite cut up with its inspiration
– the most heavyweight of the funk, soul and disco spectrums.
He was also throwing in some of the latest re-edits – Theo
Parrish’s Ugly Edits blew the roof off and Danny Krivit’s
re-edit of Aretha Franklin’s Rocksteady was a fitting end
to a belter of a night.

Riton (Grand Central) LIVE @
Jigsawmusic 18.10.03
When it came to Ritons' set the most we could anticipate is that it would be eclectic,
and that it was, pushing a charged crowd right to the edge. Swerving between too many
genres to mention, the new basement had a musical baptism of fire as some of the freshest
deep glitchy house was spun alongside funk, dirty hip hop, electro and even drum and bass.
The tunes, venue and crowd were hot, hot, hot. Birmingham will never walk the same again.
Riton we salute you.
