Greg Wilson. Various
Greg Wilson who was one of the chief
protagonists in the early development of electro in the UK. Greg
helped pioneer the early stages as resident deejay at the legendary
Wigan Pier and Manchester Legends venues. Greg was one of the
first British deejays to consider seriously the art of deejaying
and mixing was beyond the simple act of sticking a platter on
a turntable before swilling ale and checking out the available
talent (although I'm pretty sure Greg did his fair share of these
activities too!). Greg's mixes on Manchester Piccadilly Radio
were significant interludes and he was also the first British
deejay to mix live on TV when appearing on the now defunct The

Rednose Distrikt. Mar
2004
Legend has it that when young Jacob
Otten, aka DJ Kid Sublime witnessed Steven van Hulle, aka Steven
de Peven deejaying somewhere in Holland, he walked up to the dj
booth and started harassing the man about his
scratching skills. The Kid even showed off his 'air scratching'
(like playing the air guitar, but with two imaginary decks and
headphones) abilities. Steven took a liking to the fellow and
invited him to one of his Djazzedelic sessions at the legendary
Café Vaaghuyzen in the center of Amsterdam.
Their records have been acclaimed
by such prolific stars of the nu-jazz and broken beat scene as
Gilles Peterson, Dego, Volcov, Recloose, Jazzanova and then some,
while Rednose gets their music reworked by people like Domu and
the Spacecadets (DJ Spinna & keyboard player Mark de Clive-Low).
So far, their biggest hit was undoubtedly the utterly funky 'Gotta
Make A Move' featuring Philly's own Alma Horton on vocals. Apart
form the singles, Rednose Distrikt have released their first full
album Iller dan je ouders on KC the Funkaholic's Kindred Spirits
label in 2003, an effort that too has been critically acclaimed
and got them an invitation to Gilles Peterson's Worldwide show

Ben Wijay. Nov 2003
Since winning MUZIK Magazine's Bedroom Bedlam competition (2002)
Ben Wijay has had the disco bus in full throttle, establishing
himself as one of the new kids on the block. His eclectic style
has garnered recognition from the likes of Ashley Beedle to Mr
Scruff and he frequents some of the most wholesome nights in the
land, including Renaissance, Chibuku Shake Shake, Rulin’
etc. as well as running ‘Chameleon’ his own uber eclectic
night down in Devon. His residency at Birmingham’s Renegade
Robot showcases the ‘no holds barred’ attitude that
can conjure some seemingly absurd mixes to a rapturous response;
expect Janet Jackson fronting up to Playgroup and you’ll
get the picture…
Production wise Wijay is a little easier to describe. With releases
on Drop Music, DiY Discs and forthcoming EP’s on Siesta
and Modernism he has his feet firmly in the house mould at the
moment.
This CD is a live mix from November’s Chameleon (Exeter).

Nick
Matthews. August 2003
Nick Matthews, founder of London based enterprise Best Kept Secret
covers the full spectrum of music in his sets - from the deep and
soulful to the dirty and groobvy, reflecting the global nature of
music. Best Kept Secret is a DJ agency (with the likes of Phil Asher,
some of the Bugz in the Attic and Modaji on the books), and record
label which has led to Nick DJing across the US and Europe. Expect
to see him at Jigsaw very soon...

Asa
Calow Presents Sidewinder 5. 19.06.03
Asa started DJing in Manchester whilst at University, where he met
Rich. The two of them started up Sidewinder - both played across
the genres but Asa tended to bring his jazzier and latin based influences
to the mixing pot. Asa has been spinning in Manchester now for well
over 5 years and has been involved in some great nights up there
including the inimitable multi-media Doodlebug events. Asa's record
collection is truly diverse and when you hear him out, you can never
be sure what' s coming next. Those of you that checked his set at
Jigsaw number 2 will know what we mean...
